Greetings fellow mountain dulcimer players.

Our next club meeting is in about two weeks on Sunday afternoon, November 4 from 3 – 5 PM.

Carla is going to be out of town the week prior to the meeting and may not be back by the 4th, so the meeting will again be hosted by Linda and me.

Please use the email contact button in the menu on the left or call if you need directions. Our phone number is (901) 751-8306.
Since Christmas is just a couple of months away we will be getting ready for the season by playing Christmas music. Some selections will be:
What Child is This? (Greensleeves)
O Come, O Come Emanuel
Silent Night
Up On The Housetop
All Through the Night
Blue Christmas
Sussex Carol
The Covertry Carol
Jingle Bells
We will play others at the December meeting.
If you do not have tab for any of the above songs email me at magowandulcimers at comcast dot net; tell me which ones you need and I will have copies ready for you at the meeting.
Linda and I are looking forward to having you.

Strummin’ in Collierville

Hey! Just wanted to tell you about the group that meets in Collierville every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Several of us Memphis Area Mountain Dulcimer Club members have enjoyed meeting weekly at the Peterson Lake Baptist Church in Collierville, Tennessee. The church has been kind enough to let us use one of their meeting rooms for our learning and jamming. Many of the members of the church are learning to play the mountain dulcimer.
Marie Kirby is guiding the beginners as their fun and informal instructor. She’s got what it takes to get folks strummin’ fast!! Our MAMD club president, Bob Magowan, fiddled up today at the meeting…that was lots of fun to listen to as Marie played the hammer dulcimer, and I was joining in with Bob’s baritone mountain dulcimer on my lap. Ron and Emogene were backin’ us up with rhythm guitar…it was lots of fun and sounded pretty good, too! Several of the folks that met today attended last weekend’s Memphis Dulcimer Gathering & Folk Festival. Ron said he learned quite a bit about playing lead guitar, because of Jim Miller’s excellent instruction. Marie was still basking in her beautiful way about Rick Thum’s fabulous hammer dulcimer class. Bob was already passing on info he learned from Pam Lewis about playing in D with a mountain dulcimer tuned to ADA.
Just wanted to let you know about the weekly music you might like to help us make in Collierville. Use the contact button on the main menu to e-mail me or Bob Magowan about the location if you have any trouble googling it up.
I hope I see you strummin’ here or there…and everywhere.
Fondly,
Carla Maxwell

CHANGE OF LOCATION FOR OCTOBER 2007 MEETING

[originally posted in October 2007 on www.Memphis-Dulcimer.com, copied and reposted here with corrected formatting on 4/11/2009]

Hi Folks!

The location for the Memphis Area Mountain Dulcimer Club October meeting has changed.
The monthly club meeting, which is normally held in my home, is being relocated for the October 2007 meeting. The meeting, October 7th, will be held in Linda and Bob Magowan’s home from 3-5 p.m. The Magowans live not too far from my house.
For more information about the Memphis Area Mountain Dulcimer Club meetings, please use the contact button at the left to email me or to contact Bob, the club president.  We love to “talk dulcimer,” and we certainly enjoy meeting others who are dulcimer enthusiasts.
Max, Alex and I have an opportunity for a family weekend trip. We are driving to Ohio for a Maroon 5 concert….an event from Alex’s Fall Break Wish I Could Do This List. Alex loves music, too, and she is quite an M5 fan. So we’re loadin’ up and headin’ out for a roadtrip to Columbus, OH, to see their concert.
I will miss being at the meeting. I enjoy it soooo much!!
Keep strummin’
Fondly,
Carla Maxwell
